Ceteris paribus, spatial complexity and spatial equilibrium An interpretative perspective
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper addresses the implications of the well-known ceteris paribus postulate for spatial–economic equilibrium analysis under conditions of complex (non-linear dynamic) interactions in open systems. Under ever changing (e.g., evolutionary) conditions, there is a need for adjusting the standard tools in spatial– economic analysis, with more emphasis on evolutionary algorithms and computer simulations to offer a solid statistical underpinning of regional analysis. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Ceteris Paribus Structure in Logics of Game Forms
The article introduces a ceteris paribus modal logic interpreted on the equivalence classes induced by sets of propositional atoms. This logic is used to embed two logics of agency and games, namely atemporal STIT and the coalition logic of propositional control (CL−PC). The embeddings highlight a common ceteris paribus structure underpinning the key modal operators of both logics, they clarify...
متن کاملSpatial flows and spatial patterns
The misspecification of gravity spatial interaction models has recently been described by the author. The bias in parameter estimates that results from such misspecification appears to produce the 'map pattern effect' or 'spatial structure bias' in estimated distance-decay parameters. A further aspect of the misspecification bias in gravity parameter estimates is explored here. The severity of ...
متن کاملThe Econometric Consequences of the Ceteris Paribus Condition in Economic Theory
The ceteris paribus condition in economic theory assumes that the world outside the environment described by the theoretical model does not change, so that it has no impact on the economic phenomena under review. In this paper, we examine the econometric consequences of the ceteris paribus assumption by introducing a ”state of the world” variable into a well specified stochastic economic theory...
متن کاملCeteris Paribus Laws (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
Laws of nature take center stage in philosophy of science. Laws are usually believed to stand in a tight conceptual relation to many important key concepts such as causation, explanation, confirmation, determinism, counterfactuals etc. Traditionally, philosophers of science have focused on physical laws, which were taken to be at least true, universal statements that support counterfactual clai...
متن کاملCeteris Paribus, There Is No Problem of Provisos
Much of the literature on ceteris paribus laws is based on a misguided egalitarianism about the sciences. For example, it is commonly held that the special sciences are riddled with ceteris paribus laws; from this many commentators conclude that if the special sciences are not to be accorded a second class status, it must be ceteris paribus all the way down to fundamental physics. We argue that...
